Counter-Analysis — 2026

The Psychological Effects of Liberation

In 1986, psychiatrist John Dommisse published a paper documenting how apartheid inflicted psychological, social, economic and medical damage on all South Africans. His method was precise: measure a system by its effects on children, families, violence, infrastructure and dignity. Apply that same method to thirty years of ANC governance. The evidence does not support the narrative that liberation resolved the pathologies of the old order.

2012: The Marikana Massacre

16 August. SAPS open fire on striking Lonmin platinum miners at Nkaneng, Rustenburg. 34 killed. 78 wounded. Most shot in the back. The single most lethal use of force by South African security forces since the end of apartheid. Workers had demanded a living wage of R12,500/month. Lonmin 🇬🇧 (London-listed, founded 1909 as London and Rhodesian Mining) refused to negotiate.

ANC stalwart Cyril Ramaphosa sat on Lonmin's board as non-executive director. His company Shanduka was a minority shareholder. On 15 August, one day before the massacre, Ramaphosa emailed Lonmin demanding "concomitant action" against what he called "plainly dastardly criminals." He pressed for Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa to get involved. The Farlam Commission found Lonmin "did not use its best endeavours to resolve a dispute" and urged the state to treat a labour dispute as a criminal matter. No minister. No police commander. No board member has been convicted. Ramaphosa became President.

Section 05 — The Epistemological Parallel

The Logic Chain

The analytical framework that made Dommisse's paper powerful was not its politics. It was its method. Apply the method consistently. Accept the conclusions consistently.
If

Dommisse measured apartheid by its effects on children, families, violence, infrastructure and human dignity, and that method was accepted as legitimate grounds for condemning a system of governance...

Then

The same method applied to the ANC government produces the same categories of finding: 1.7 million stunted children, 42 murders per 100,000, 46.1% youth unemployment, R400 billion water backlog, 144 psychiatric patients killed by policy, the world's highest Gini coefficient.

Therefore

Either the method is valid for both systems of governance, or it is valid for neither. The evidence does not support the claim that liberation resolved the pathologies of the old order. In several measurable dimensions, it made them worse.

"If the psychological effect of apartheid was to tell Black South Africans they were less than human, the psychological effect of three decades of ANC governance has been to tell them the same thing in softer language: through collapsing schools rather than segregated ones, through empty taps rather than separate taps, through 72 murders a day rather than security police cells."

Alt Afrikaner, The Psychological Effects of Liberation, 2026
If

The narrative that liberation resolved apartheid's pathologies is protected by the Wasserman → Africa Check → IFCN → Meta pipeline (documented in Alt Afrikaner's six-part Open Society Files investigation)...

Then

The information architecture is structurally preventing the diagnosis. Farm attack posts are suppressed. Crime statistics reframed. Service delivery data buried. The mechanism is not censorship by law. It is censorship by certification.

Therefore

The pathology cannot be treated because the diagnostic instrument has been captured. The fact-checking system protects the governance that produces the suffering.
